Agapanthus

The summer perennial agapanthus, or ‘flower of love’ in Greek, is large and tall with stems that can reach over a metre high. Featuring blue and white flowers that form beautiful spheres, agapanthus love sunshine and hate the cold.

See them
You can find them in the water garden’s flower beds.
Agapanthus are the main subject of two artworks by Claude Monet held at Musée Marmottan Monet: ‘Agapanthus’ and ‘Water Lillies and Agapanthus’ in which they mingle with the water garden’s famous flowers.

Grow them
Agapanthus are originally from South Africa and hate the cold so will only grow in temperate regions. Protect them in winter. They can be grown in pots and moved to a cellar or unheated greenhouse when winter arrives.
